Anatomy & Physiology

What exactly does it take to become a massage therapist?

While there's many different responses to this question, the very basic fundamentals of any massage therapist should start from science; Specifically Anatomy and Physiology. These two sciences while very distinct, are also interrelated. Anatomy is the science of the structure of an organism (in our case the human body) and its parts. Physiology is the science of the functions of living organisms (human body) and their parts.

To put it simply, with Anatomy you learn about the body and it's parts, where and how they are positioned. While with Physiology you learn about how these parts function and what they do. This may sound simple but the human body is very complex. It can take years to learn, memorize and understand every level of organization from chemical level (atoms) to organism level (whole body).

Over time, we will cover various different levels to help you gain knowledge that your therapist should have, but more importantly help you understand your own body. Remember, knowledge is power. With power you can make better decisions for yourself. Until next time...
